How long is alcohol rehab?
Alcohol detox typically takes 3 to 7 days, although some withdrawal symptoms can last 1 to 2 weeks or longer depending on how heavily and how long you have been drinking. Residential alcohol rehab at Turning Point is offered in 30, 60 and 90-day programs, and many clients continue with outpatient care afterward. Your clinical team recommends a length of stay based on your needs and progress.
Medications for alcohol use disorder
When appropriate, our medical team may use medications to make detox safer and support long-term recovery, such as:
- Naltrexone to reduce cravings
- Acamprosate to help the brain recover after long-term heavy drinking
- Disulfiram as a deterrent to drinking
